Earlier in the year VOT had a pop up at the Games Expo in Melbourne. It was a great opportunity to talk about voice acting with the many gamers who came by, cosplaying as their favourite characters, or just interested in maybe finding out how to put the voices they use when they play to use elsewhere!
No one left without having their curiosity sparked!
But one of the big things that happened at the Expo was a relationship created with VOT and Homesglen Tafe. We spoke with the Games Dev Course trainers and set up a meetings to work with them to help cast the final year students video games.
This gave the the game dev students the chance to work with voice actors, old and new who are passionate about gaming and showed that using human voices to make your game will always win over an AI gen voice. (Even the robot voices are better voiced by humans!)
So in a character workshop just a few weeks later participants were offered the chance to audition for these games. We also reached out to our previous voice acting studios and thee wider voice acting community if they would like to audition. Many of them scored a role!
Andy then facilitated and helped direct the recording, with everyone benefiting from the experience, and we can’t wait to see the end result.
The Students will have excellent voice production which adds to the enjoyment of the game, and the voice actors will have a great game for their demos (the games are still in production).
Melbourne has a lot of games production and we also have a lot of talented voice actors, but sometimes those two groups don’t seem to meet, but we think they should.
Over the years many people have come through VOT workshops, and Andy and Cecelia have both worked in the Industry for 20+ years, so there’s lots of opportunity to find the right voice for the project.
